Henry Cecil - Champion Racehorse Trainer
The Silver-Lining Cricketer's Syndicate and it's History

The Silver-Lining Cricketers Syndicate was established by Victoria Mallalieu to celebrate Chris Silverwood’s (Middlesex, Yorkshire and England Cricketer) Benefit Year in 2004.  Since this date, The Silver Lining Cricketers Syndicate have won £30,932.20 in prizemoney, had 3 wins and 31 places from only 6 runners, these horses were trained by Charlie McBride in Newmarket.

Since establishing the Syndicate Chris and Victoria have become heavily involved in the Racing and Breeding Industry.  They keep a share in every horse in training and also now have 3 broodmares at their Stud Farm on the outskirts of Newmarket.  They also offer boarding facilitis for fillies and geldings out of training and for barren and maiden mares, being within close proximity of Newmarket, able to walk them into the local Stud Farms.

Victoria, Chris’s wife, runs all aspects of the Syndicate and she also selects the horses from the sales and allocates them to the Racing Partnership’s and their trainer.  Victoria is the main point of contact for all existing Syndicate members and interested parties.  You can also contact Victoria if you are interested in boarding your horse at their stud.

The Silver-Lining Cricketers Syndicate incorporates ‘The Sticky Wicket Syndicate’, these are a number of Racing Partnerships who own horses which are trained by 10 times Champion trainer and 2007 Oaks Winning trainer Henry Cecil.

The first ‘Sticky Wicket Syndicate’ with Henry was formed in 2006 and the horse owned by this Partnership is called Born Tobouggie she has been highly regarded by Henry whilst in training as a 2 year old but unfortunately had some complications which meant that she was unable to visit the track that year.  As a 3 year old she has physically strengthened, is a nice specimen and has been working well, we are excited and confident that she will give her syndicate members an enjoyable and memorable year.  This Racing Partnership comprises 6 Shares and is full.

‘Sticky Wicket Syndicate II’ was formed in 2007 and the horse in this Partnership is called Hallingdal Blue she is a well bred filly by Halling out of a dam who was rated over 100.  She is an uncomplicated filly who enjoys her training and learns quickly, she is enjoying her education at Warren Place under Henry’s tutorage and the Syndicate will look forward to seeing her on the course in the summer.  This Racing Partnership comprises 9 shares and is full.

The third ‘Sticky Wicket Syndicate’ has been formed in the recent months and will comprise 10 shares, the horse will be selected from the forthcoming Breeze Ups sales and will immediately enter training with Henry.  This Syndicate is also full.

We have recently had many enquiries regarding becoming a Syndicate member as our Syndicates sell out very quickly, we do not advertise as many of our members are through recommendation from existing members or are friends of them, there is also much media interest in Chris and his passion for racing, in the first few months this year he has been featured in 5 publications regarding his cricketing and horse racing/breeding aims, he was also interviewed by Sky Sports News in November last year, you can watch his interview by clicking here.  We already have a waiting list for the ‘Sticky Wicket Syndicate IV’ which will be the purchase of a yearling at the autumn yearling sales this year.  You are encouraged to contact us and register an interest if you would like to join us.  You are under no obligation to fulfil your interest although we do have a cut of date of the end of July when we would then ask for your ‘upfront’ payment to enable us to purchase the yearling.  Keep costs are then to be paid monthly after the purchase of the yearling.  As an example of costs for joining one of our Syndicates, our latest one cost £3,000 ‘upfront’ and monthly payments of £300 thereafter the purchase.  This is very affordable considering that you own a share in a horse in training with Henry Cecil.  We strive to purchase well bred fillies so that we always have a residual value in them and you never own less than 10% of the horse.

Chris Silverwood

CHRIS SILVERWOOD (Middlesex, Yorkshire & England)
Before becoming a Middlesex player in 2006, Chris played first team cricket for Yorkshire CCC for 14 years, making his debut in 1993. He has played test cricket and one day international cricket for England making his debut against Zimbabwe in 1996.

Chris is the Director of the Syndicate and a shareholder in all the horses.  He is regularly in Newmarket watching the horses on the gallops and attending the races, especially now that he has relocated to live close to Newmarket due to him changing clubs from Yorkshire to Middlesex.

His first season at Middlesex has proved to be the best of his career and he won ‘Player of the Year 2006’, ‘Bowler of the Year 2006’, ‘Player of the Month June 2006’ and the ‘John Bugden Memorial Bowling Award 2006’ at the Middlesex CCC End of Season Dinner.  On both the occasions he opposed his former club Yorkshire he took 5 wickets in the innings, making history at Scarborough where he is the only bowler to appear on the hall of fame in both dressing rooms for gaining five wickets in an innings both when he played for Yorkshire and then in 2006 when he played against them for Middlesex.

Due to Chris’s passion and his hands on approach MATTHEW HOGGARD (Ashes Hero) has also become involved with the horses and we can expect to see them at the racecourse and on the gallops, along with other sporting friends.
